One of the most interesting orchards the Carter Mountain Orchard is situated on the very top of a mountain, as the name would suggest and is open until November 2nd. This orchard is famous not only for its height, but also because it is adjacent to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's former home. Visit a great American landmark and bring home some apples.

• Johnson Orchards - Yakima, Washington

Washington State prides itself as the best in apple production. The Johnson Orchards is well renowned in the industry. Having been set up over a century ago and containing over 60 acres of farm land, this is a must see area. Aside from their large variety of apples, the orchard also has many other different fruits to pick, such as cherries, plums, apricots and peaches.
